Network Engineer: OpenStack (London, or remote within UK) TL256

Verne Global is seeking a Network Engineer skilled in OpenStack and infrastructure design to join the team advancing our state of the art Cloud Service hosted at our Icelandic data centre.

Optionally, you may work remotely or from home regularly, spending one day at the London office each week.

We're addressing the challenges faced by intensive and high performance computing across the world's most advanced industries by combining Iceland’s natural attributes with innovative design. For example, we offer the first commercial ability to provision Infiniband solutions using OpenStack. Completing our early growth phase, we're now preparing to scale to hundreds of thousands of nodes with customers across academia, automotive, education, F1 and pharma.

Collaborating with our software engineers and our chosen OpenStack/HPC architect, this is a customer facing role with lots of project work around architecture, design, build and technology exploration, all underpinned by effective network operations.

This is somewhere you can have influence, and make a direct and positive impact. We offer progression to become lead Network Engineer, or onto network strategy, architecture and design.

  • New infrastructure for customer on-ramping New file transfer acceleration solution Migrating from VPN concentrator to a new virtual solution Researching, designing and developing an OpenStack High Performance Network services Working with customers, sometimes on-site, on gathering telemetry data for analysis
  • Helping to improve operational resilience of OpenStack and identifying failure root causes
  • Working with leading automotive manufacturers to develop their next generation HPC services
  • Working with leading education institutions to drive faster HPC based research

We're looking for

  • A solution oriented approach, good customer interaction and technical writing skills
  • Adaptability; quick to absorb new concepts and share knowledge
  • Ability to help design build and operate Linux-based infrastructure as code solutions
  • Troubleshooting skills for third line enterprise support
  • Familiarity with OpenStack; Neutron, Nova and Ironic
  • Adept in: Flow control, HSRP/VRRP/GLBP, SSL-VPN, STP, Port Channelling, IPsec, TLS etc. Design and operation of networking in a cloud-first implementation
  • Any of; Shell (Bash, Ksh, Csh), Perl, Python etc., plus Ansible or similar
  • Network monitoring and reporting tools Firewalls - Fortigate, Cisco and Juniper
  • Knowledge of virtualised enterprise environments - e.g. SDLAN, SDWAN, VXLAN, FWaaS
  • You may be seeking mid level jobs in OpenStack network engineering, such as: Network Engineer | Data Centre Engineer | NOC Engineer | OpenStack Administrator | OpenStack Engineer | OpenStack Deployment Engineer | Site Reliability Engineer | HPC Engineer | Linux Engineer | etc.

You may also bring – or like to gain – skills in any of

  • Designing and operating HPC / Infiniband / Omniband networks
  • OpenStack technologies such as Keystone, Glance, Monasca SD-WAN technologies
  • Foreign languages, German especially
  • Experience supporting certifications such as ISO/IEC 27001

Location

Remote within UK, or at our central London HQ - five minutes' walk from Charing Cross or Leicester Square
Some domestic and international travel to customers (we anticipate one/two nights monthly, this may vary)
